Saint-Martin-de-Belleville
The spirit of a Savoyard village
Gateway between the Maurienne and Tarentaise valleys via the rugged Encombres pass
La Bouitte is the Meilleur family's love song to the Belleville valley, once a strategic crossing point between the Maurienne and Tarentaise valleys via the rugged Encombres pass.
Comprising the resorts of Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, Les Menuires and Val Thorens and at altitudes ranging from 509 to 3,561 metres, the Belleville valley offers an uplifting rollercoaster ride from green pastures to icy glaciers.
With Val Thorens delivering epic snow and innovation, Les Menuires, a family base-camp, and Saint-Martin, a peaceful and authentic getaway, in Les 3 Vallées pleasure is three-fold.
Inhabited since ancient times, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville has retained all the charm of a remote mountain village with a deeply-rooted rural feel.
With its tiled roofs, stone walls, mountain farmsteads, chalets, museum and heritage trail, featuring some twenty 17th-century Baroque churches and chapels, getting lost here is a way of reconnecting with history.
Facing the Encombres pass and the Cochet mountain, and just a heartbeat away from the Cime de Caron - one of the most panoramic views in the Alps - as well as the imposing Aiguille de Pécle summit and the Lac du Lou, a favourite picnicking spot for hikers, the landscape offers endless possibilities. An altogether dazzling kaleidoscope of nature.
Boasting seven of Europe's finest ski resorts and 600km of pistes, Les 3 Vallées is a superlative resort.
With guaranteed snow and infinite gliding opportunities in winter, the first mountain bike trails in spring, hiking trails in summer and an array of colours and vistas in autumn, Les 3 Vallées is a real-life adventure book.
Experiences to enjoy in every season
In the green of summer and the white of winter, ours is a two-tone colour scheme that lends a different hue to each experience.
There are two seasons at La Bouitte Hotel in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, and the pleasure resides as much in the ski tracks as in the footsteps of the mountain hikers.
Two seasons offering happiness squared and a colour palette to match.
In the area of Saint-Martin, around twenty chapels and churches (including the extremely beautiful one in Saint-Martin), most of which date from the 17th century, make up one of the most important heritage sites in the Tarentaise.
Covering a distance of 5km and featuring twelve separate stops, this trail takes you through the old village of Saint-Martin, its monuments and various sites where community life was once lived. Embark on this route all year round to explore the heart and soul of the village.
Duration: two hours
In the heart of the village, the museum retraces over a century of the history of this Savoyard valley.
Housed in a former farmhouse, you can follow the village's gradual transformation into an internationally renowned tourist resort.
Situated between Saint-Martin-de-Belleville and the hamlet of Saint-Marcel, this magnificent, recently restored sanctuary is an important pilgrimage destination and one of the finest Baroque buildings in Savoie with its 17th century frescoes by Nicolas Oudéard and altarpiece by Piedmontese artist Jean-Marie Molino.
